There are key moments in life that one should recognize and act on: becoming involved with EuroBiO and building a European BIO project was, for me, one such moment.

EuroBiO is not just another meeting.
By making EuroBiO inclusive, by placing EuroBiO at the crossroads of Industry and Research, we have forged an event (with a distinctive European flavour) that demonstrates the fundamental integration that is essential to any bioenterprise. Its high profile makes EuroBiO a fantastic opportunity for all in this sector to convey some vital message to Europe’s decisionmakers:

• Innovation – ethically performed - is indispensible in Europe’s progress towards becoming the leading knowledgebased economy;

• Financing that innovation must rise to the top of European priorities: The brains of today are our hope for tomorrow’s future.

EuroBiO is international, recognizing the global nature of bioenterprise and research. It provides a single platform that unites bioindustry and bioscience and serves to illustrate just how strong the European presence is in leading-edge sectors. The United States may currently lead, but now she has to respond to serious competition both from Europe and from emerging powerhouses in Asia. For companies and for researchers alike, whether they are in Europe, the United States, or in Asia, real success comes through collaboration, the kind of collaborations that will start at EuroBiO.

Europe isn't simply the "old” continent. There can be wisdom in proceeding cautiously into the unknown. Now we know, and Europe is already active. Perhaps Europe has been slow in showing sufficient faith in her new generation; but now the way is clear and, more importantly, the resources are there for innovation to innervate the continent. A somewhat prudent Europe is transforming itself into an enterprising Europe and is doing so within the kind of inclusive ethical framework that our partners admire.

Not since the Renaissance has Europe seen the kind of momentous change as it is seeing now as the 21st century’s biorevolution blossoms. EuroBiO catalyses this ambition.
